Ruscus aculeatus, also called butcher's broom, knee holly, or piaranthus, is an evergreen sub-shrub that grows up to 2-3' tall and wide. It is native to Europe, northern Africa, and the Azores and has small, spiny-tipped, glossy dark green cladophylls.
